Smoking or tobacco chewing raises the risk of cancers of the lung, mouth, throat, oesophagus, bladder and pancreas. Exposure to chemicals such as asbestos, benzene and formaldehyde also raises the risk of cancers like bladder, lung and skin cancer.

What are the early symptoms of cancer?

Common symptoms include unexpected fevers, unexplained weight loss and lumps. If symptoms persist for more than a week, visit your healthcare provider, who may advise diagnostic tests, screening and a treatment plan customised to you.

How do I know what type of cancer I have?

Your cancer specialist can perform pathological, cytological or radiological tests. If cancer is confirmed, the specialist determines the stage to understand the extent and spread of the disease.

When should I see a cancer specialist?

Your doctor may carry out tests to find out whether you have cancer. If cancer is suspected, you will likely be referred to a cancer specialist.

What cancer treatment options are available?

Options depend on the type and stage of cancer and usually include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. At Prolife Cancer Centre an integrated team of cancer specialists decides the treatment plan.
